Philip Lawrence Award - Outstanding work in the local community

December 2003

In 2002 HENs was nominated for the Philip Lawrence Award which recognises the '...positive difference young people can make in their area'. HENs won runner up position.

In 2003 they won the Award for outstanding contribution to their community. It was presented to them by Sir Trevor McDonald, Frances Lawrence, Tom Wylie - The National Youth Agency and Rt. Hon. David Blunckett MP.

The company continues to work alongside Philip Lawrence and the Home Office.

One of their biggest fans is Eric Smith, community safety manager at Brentwood Borough Council, who has worked with the group on all three productions. "From a funders point of view, it's a dream ticket" he says, "They're local, they provide excellent quality at minimum cost and they are open to our ideas. I've been amazed at the professionalism and originality they've showed. They set themselves a challenge and they've come a long way, showing a great deal of maturity and flexibility."
